Here is a photo I just snapped of a street-involved individual with some apparent mental health issues being taken to the hospital after deciding to walk into, and lay down on the floor of Starbucks in downtown Toronto.
He laid there for about 30 minutes screaming out various offensive comments mixed with some (surprisingly) coherent rants about life.
Oddly enough, the 'madness' coming from the floor at Starbucks could have easily been taken as a passable response to this nonsense.
Considering the string of news coming out of Canada in recent months, including this story from today, it's no longer a stretch to ask: What the hell is happening to my country?

Add this to the list of Conservative, ultra-religious politicians who prance around preaching about "family values" and their self-appointed moral authourity, yet lack the conviction to just be themselves.

It is often said that "money talks" ... but in this case, money could just as easily silence dissent.
Important to note: Twitter is the 10th most visited website in Saudi Arabia.
Given that I take issue with some of the things he writes, and the fact that I don't know the man, I find it a tad strange that I actually feel a personal sense of sadness reading this today.
Perhaps it is because with his death, so too goes another coherent voice in such a muddled world.

Today, we learn that another company is pulling their advertising from TLC’s ‘All-American Muslim’ TV show.
Petitions such as this one are making their way to company headquarters and into the offices of policy makers across America.
Here is a small example of the garbage that is being propagated by people who think they are American patriots:
"TLC's 'All-American Muslim' is propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values," ... "The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to the liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish."
Weird, average Americans, living ordinary lives. Weird how FACTS can get in the way of people's ignorant assumptions.
I can think of a few other people, with much more power and influence, who are doing more harm to America's liberities and "values"... and oddly enough also refuse to let FACTS replace their bigoted way of thinking...
Keep putting your hand on your heart and waving your fraying flag, America!
When you are in possession of assets that are worth billions of dollars and STILL do not pay taxes (in the midst of one of the worst economic crises), you cannot expect to be taken seriously when you spout suffocating self-righteous baloney like this.
Merry F***ing Christmas!
Love,
The Pope

Apparently, a degree or an education of any kind is no longer a prerequisite for writers of Canada's National Post.

As I have suggested on a few other occasions, if you want to indoctrinate your children and advance a way of thinking that is fundamentally discriminatory, it should not be done on the public dime... anymore.

Stories like this one have always existed. The difference is that now, folks are actually starting to speak up.
Call me weak, call me a pinko, dismiss me as a hockey outsider, but do not tell me that Canada's game requires on-ice martyrs.

Oh, you know, just another example of some of the stuff that I have been writing, reading, and ranting about for almost a million years now... and the sort of thing that biggoted and reactionary individuals choose to constantly discredit and ignore.

Today, after five years of living in Toronto, I have finally become a true Torontonian.
I woke up, walked my dog at Trinity Bellwoods Park, showered, shaved, threw on my suit, and after five years of walking to work each day, I took the TTC (Toronto's public transit) instead.
One word to sum up my experience: sardines.
The Dundas streetcar, the Yonge subway line, everyone, packed in like sardines. Which is why stories like this one leave me scratching my head and asking, why? Why in a city like ours, one that continues to build upwards are we neglecting our public transit?
When are the folks running this world class city going to finally realize that saving money by cutting services is not the only "responsible" way to govern in tough economic times? Sometimes, and this is one of those times, it is okay to have some political courage, a sense of vision, and promote the idea that in order to make money, you sometimes have to spend money.
But then again, how do you package and sell a concept like that into a sexy four-word campaign slogan?
