Why Torontonians should be allowed to have fun
Toronto prides itself on being the most multicultural city in the world, and soccer is as international as it gets. Why our elected officials and civic leaders have yet to transform our public spaces into vibrant fan zones on occasions such as Euro 2012 (or the Olympics) is a question I wish more people would ask.
Instead, Torontonians are forced into (small) patios and restaurants sprinkled all over the city, where it is legal to drink on one side of the gate, and not the other. And if the 50 seats are already occupied, well, there is no room for your business.
I am looking forward to the day where the alcohol laws in Ontario allow for our businesses to actually flourish, for adults to be treated like adults, and for (more) truly social and international experiences to be allowed to take place in the wonderful public spaces in Canada's largest city... and beyond.
